SOMETHING ABOUT KATE RICHARDSON
Kate grew up with her family at the Elephant Boatyard on the River Hamble.
Kate Richardson is a contemporary British artist whose work is deeply informed by a lifelong connection to the sea. Raised at the Elephant Boatyard on the River Hamble, sailing and boatbuilding formed the backdrop to her early years and continue to influence her practice.
She studied Sculpture (BA Hons) at the City & Guilds of London Art School, following an Art Foundation at Portsmouth College of Art, before moving into painting, working primarily in acrylics.
Based in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, Kate creates dynamic sailing and Seascape paintings inspired by racing her family’s classic yacht, Sabrina, around the Solent. Her work is defined by confident line, bold colour, and richly textured surfaces, capturing a strong sense of movement, depth, and energy. Her large-scale works make a striking addition to any interior.
Kate lives in Cowes on the Isle of Wight with her husband Craig “Lightning” Nutter and their children, Jack and Molly and Bonnie the Sprinador. Family life and sailing together continue to inspire the energy and spirit that define her work.
